Texas Law requires all vehicles to have annual State Inspection before you can do your registration. There are two types of inspections: full inspections that includes safety and emission, or safety only.

Vehicles that are required to have full inspection:

Vehicles registered in designated counties. Designated counties include: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties

Gasoline powered vehicles. Diesel powered vehicles and motorcycles are exempt from emissions testing, but are still required to have the annual safety inspection

Vehicles 2 through 24 years old OR upon expiration of the two-year initial inspection sticker

Vehicles that are safety only:

If your vehicle is diesel or more then 10,000 lb

If your vehicle is older than 25 years old

If your vehicle is less than a year old

Motorcycles and Trailers.

What items are part of the inspections:

Safety:
​
1. Horn
2. Windshield Wipers (can't be torn more than 1" on each blade)
3. Mirror (you must have at least one mirror that is not cracked or broken)
4. Steering (we check for leaks and normal operation)
5. Seat Belts
6. Brakes (system) (Parking – beginning with 1960 models)
7. Tires (it can't be less than 2/32 (1/16) of an inch in the middle or cracked side wall)
8. Wheel Assembly (The wheel assembly can't have any missing lug nuts)
9. Exhaust System (can't have any holes and it has to be passed the cab)
10. Exhaust Emission System (beginning with 1968 models)
11. Beam Indicator (beginning with 1948 models)
12. Tail Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier
13. Stop Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier
14. License Plate Lamp (1)
15. Rear Red Reflectors (2)
16. Turn Signal Lamps (beginning with 1960 models)
17. Head Lamps (2)
18. Motor, Serial, or Vehicle Identification Number
19. Gas caps on vehicles 2-24 model years old
20. Window Tint. (Front windows can't be darker then 25%)

Emission:

We check for the "Check Engine Light" and make sure it is operating properly

We connect the OBD connector to ensure there are no codes in the system
